چکیده

A micro component for a non-selective NDIR (non dispersive infrared) gas detection system is presented in this work. This device consist of an IR detection module composed of two matching arrays, one of filters and one of thermopile detectors. These arrays (up to 4x4 elements) are built on a silicon substrate using CMOS compatible materials and processes. Bulk micro-machining is used to build the membrane where the thermopiles are placed. The elements of the filter array are fabricated alternating thin films of different refraction index acting like Fabry-Perot structures with different core thickness. The transmitted filter peaks are not tuned for the detection of any specific substance: they configure a non selective general purpose filter array (400-4000cm), making signal processing and pattern recognition techniques necessary. Both devices have been fabricated and characterized and have been successfully attached using flip-chip techniques. The measured characteristics of these devices have been used to build an optical simulation tool that allows the assessment of the whole NDIR system behavior in operating conditions.

A High-Precision NDIR CO2 Sensing Module for ZigBee Applications

NDIR-based CO2 sensor is commonly used in the field of environmental monitoring due to relatively high accuracy compared with that of a chemical CO2 gas sensor. This paper presents a wireless sensing system with a low-cost Non-Dispersive InfraRed (NDIR) sensor module used to determine gas concentration in a remote air quality monitoring system. Unlike the chemical CO2 gas sensor, the proposed s...

NDIR Gas Sensor for Spatial Monitoring of Carbon Dioxide Concentrations in Naturally Ventilated Livestock Buildings

The tracer gas ratio method, using CO2 as natural tracer, has been suggested as a pragmatic option to measure emissions from naturally ventilated (NV) barns without the need to directly estimate the ventilation rate. The aim of this research was to assess the performance of a low-cost Non-Dispersive Infra-Red (NDIR) sensor for intensive spatial field monitoring of CO2 concentrations in a NV dai...

Application Note NDIR-Measurement

The NDIR gas detection method is based on the absorption of infrared radiation, which is shown by many polyatomic or heterodimer diatomic gases. For example CO2 gas absorbs IR radiation at 4.26μm wavelength. The detected radiation intensity at this wavelength decreases if the concentration of CO2 increases between source and detector. The extent of absorption mainly depends on the absolute numb...

A One ppm NDIR Methane Gas Sensor with Single Frequency Filter Denoising Algorithm

A non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) methane gas sensor prototype has achieved a minimum detection limit of 1 parts per million by volume (ppm). The central idea of the design of the sensor is to decrease the detection limit by increasing the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the system. In order to decrease the noise level, a single frequency filter algorithm based on fast Fourier transform (FFT) is ...
